It's hard to predict how the fishing season will go this year. The last gasp of winter and the hint of Spring gives me intense optimism. Spent a lot of time at the vise this winter and I have a few new patterns to try. Already have reservaions made to hit my favorite haunts but I'll just have to wait for a few weeks and see how the weather and water turn out. Still believe the same old saying:

Growing old sucks!

I’m always on the hunt for new fly fishing partners andI think I found one. He’s my grandson and while he’s only four, he shows enthusiasm, drive and interest. I hope I’m still around to enjoy time with him on the stream when he matures. Until that happens I'll continue to search for others who share my passion for the sport and can spend some valuable time on the stream.

Little Juniata 5-19 thru 5-22-2026

Couple of days on the Little J. Weather was Hot, Hot, Hot. Low 90's. The water temp at the Barree bridge was crawling over 70 degrees. Yet, no shortage of fishermen trying to catch and maybe kill trout. Probably the least pleasurable of my trips to this location.

Kettle Creek 6-7 thru 6-10-2026

Gary E, his son Reid (my grandson) and I fished Kettle for a couple days. Only thing that could have made the trip nicer would be a sulphur and light cahill hatch. Never saw many bugs and the weather was warming up fast. Very few rising fish so most of the time was spent nymph fishing.

Spring Creek 6-22 thru 6-24-2026

My first day at Spring was stormy. Heavy rain and lightning kept me in the trailer most of the day. Except for the lack of bugs, the remainder of the trip was stellar. It did get a bit too warm on the last day but, hey, its the middle of June!
